Homemade Granola

This granola from Nigella Lawson's Feast is delicious and never lasts long in our house! It's very simple to make (the list of ingredients may seem long, but don't let that put you off making this), and I've found that even if I miss an ingredient out it still tastes just as good.  Read on for the ingredients and recipe:

Ingredients:

450g rolled oats
120g sunflower seeds
175g apple sauce
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
120g brown rice syrup (golden syrup works just as well)
4 tablespoons runny honey
100g light brown sugar
250g whole natural almonds
1 teaspoon maldon salt
2 tablespoons sunflower oil
300g raisins (I usually leave these out)

Method:

Mix everything (except the raisins, if you're using them) in a mixing bowl, then spread the mixture into two baking trays.  Bake in the oven (170c) for about 40 minutes, and turn over about halfway through.  Once the granola is baked and cooled, store in an airtight jar (and add the raisins if using).

In the book, Nigella also mentions a chocolate version of this, which uses chocolate chips and cocoa powder, which sounds divine.
